Samba servers provide a useful way to mount a directory on another computer onto your local machine. The /data /raid/ /home directories can all be mounted by connecting to mime's samba server. To get a samba account and password e-mail trouble@mime.colorado.edu.
Setting up a Samba Connection
Prerequisites
- Samba Server accounts
- To get a samba account and initial password e-mail trouble@mime.colorado.edu
- Once you have an account you can set your samba password with the following command:
/usr/local/samba/bin/smbpasswd
- Connecting
- If you are using a wired connection on campus no other special configuration is required
- If you are off campus or using WiFi you will need to use the VPN Client to connect to the server
OS X
- Go to finder
- Menu -> Go -> Connect to Server (or just type cmd-k)
- Under server address type:
smb://mime.colorado.edu
- Select the directory to mount and hit 'ok'
- Under Workgroup or Domain type:
WORKGROUP
- Under Name type your mime login name.
- Enter password and hit 'ok'
