NAACL HLT 2009: Internet Connectivity

Connectivity at the University of Colorado with a Work-Issued Laptop

It has been our experience that conference attendees who plan to use a work-issued laptop to connect to the Internet while attending a conference at the University of Colorado in Boulder frequently have some challenges not encountered by attendees who are using personal laptops.

To help facilitate a smooth registration on our campus, we would like to encourage you to work with your IT department prior to arriving on campus to ensure that the computer you are bringing is configured to join a public network.

  1. Make sure you are using your operating system’s firewall.
  2. Make sure that the TCIP/IP Properties of you Internet connection (wired or wireless) are set to:
    • Obtain an IP Address Automatically
    • Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically
  3. Remove and WINS addresses
  4. In your browser options remove any proxy server settings (Depending how it was configured you may need an administrative password or admin permission to remove this) and never dial a connection is set.
  5. If your IT Department has any questions, please have them call our Help Desk at 303-492-1291 for assistance.
