Instructions for Authors

These instructions are for authors of long and short papers submitted to the NAACL HLT 2009 main conference. Except for page limits, the instructions apply also to student papers, doctoral consortium papers, demonstration papers, and workshop papers. Please consult the appropriate webpage for more information about these submission categories.

Additional instructions regarding the preparation of the camera-ready copy can be found here:

Formatting Guidelines

All submissions must be electronic in PDF and must follow the two-column format of ACL proceedings. Authors are strongly recommended to use the style files provided here. It is very important to specify US Letter format. The maximum length of a manuscript is eight (8) pages of content and one (1) additional page of references for long papers, four (4) pages for short papers. The page limits have to be strictly observed. All camera-ready manuscripts should look like the sample PDF file below, which also contains detailed formatting requirements.

Anonymous Submission

As reviewing will be blind, the paper should not include the authors' names and affiliations. Furthermore, self-references that reveal the author's identity, e.g., "We previously showed (Smith, 1991) ...", should be avoided. Instead, use citations such as "Smith previously showed (Smith, 1991) ...". (Do not use anonymous citations.) Do not include acknowledgments. Papers that do not conform to these requirements will be rejected without review.

Poster Guidelines

  • Posters should be designed for a landscape layout
  • Main conference posters should be no larger than 33x44 inches.
  • Workshop posters should be no larger than 30x38 inches.
